I go through phases when it comes to cooking healthy. Yogurt making was one of them! I started to take a serious look at some of the ingredients found in yogurt at the grocery store. I wondered how could Oreo cookies with yogurt possibly be healthy? It can’t be. Sugar and preservatives are not good for us. I am not even mentioning the possibility of GMOs in the yogurt either!
One of my friends started making yogurt from scratch without the benefit of an automatic yogurt maker. She would measure milk and heat it on the stove. Every so often, she checked the temperature of the milk with a candy thermometer. Everything had to be perfect. She whipped in some starter yogurt, strained the mixture and kept the mixture warm in the oven until it was thick. Next, it cooled in the refrigerator.
Her yogurt was perfect. I tried making it. It was hit or miss! On the good days I experimented by adding vanilla or some type of fresh fruit. Soon though, I grew tired. I began to read automatic yogurt maker reviews! I found them remarkably similar. Many of the yogurt makers had the same shape. They made about the same quantity of yogurt. They even took up the same amount of counter space! Some had automatic shut offs, others did not! All came with small glass jars.
One maker came with automatic cooling after the yogurt had cooked, it also came with a high price tag! All came with thermometers! I began to think. I don’t want to eat store brand yogurt filled in plastic containers. I don’t think I need one more piece of fancy kitchen equipment. I am back to making yogurt from scratch and have found I don’t need a yogurt maker. For those of you are out of the home a lot, they are a good investment towards your health! Bon appetite!
I got out of my normal early-morning daze just as the egg yolks were about to harden in the frying pan. All my life I always preferred my eggs scrambled but today I thought I’d switch it up and cook them sunny side up instead. Hardened yolks were a no-no; I much preferred a liquid center on my eggs so I could dip my toast into them. For the first time in my life, I wanted this breakfast to be perfect.
I was never this fuzzy with my meals before. I guess I got used to the routine of eating oatmeal and scrambled eggs every day that I didn’t mind the occasional burnt egg or dried out oatmeal. Today however, I got out my new Cuisinart toaster to try it out for the first time. I half expected the toast to get burnt on the first try
, but everything came out perfect. The coffee was ready and my paper was already at the table waiting to be read. This was turning out to be a good day.
As I was dipping my toast into the warm creamy liquid yolk, I thought about how lucky I was that my expectations for this meal came true. I never even thought this trivial exercise of waking up and cooking would give me so much joy. I supposed that it was because life doesn’t give us many opportunities like this. Expectations more often than not fall short of reality. This lesson is hardwired into our brains when we grow older. On the rare occasions that we do meet our expectations, it feels like a blessing.
When I finished, I got up to put the dishes in the sink. As I was doing that I thought about the unlikelihood that good days like this would ever happen again. Perfectly cooked sunny side ups don’t happen very often. Impeccably toasted bread is hard to come by. But then I thought, “At least my Cuisinart toaster works.”

Cookware of this material has a tendency of heating quickly since aluminum is one of the best heat conductors. It is lightweight in nature and usually comes with a nonstick coating. Masticating juicers grind and chew fruits and vegetables slowly into pulp through a mechanical process. Masticating juicers as you probably are aware, are by far much better than centrifugal juicers. They produce juice that is not oxidized or foamy. Moreover, they keep the enzymes in track and produce tastier juice. Centrifugal juicers cannot actually handle greens like vegetables well. A masticating juicer is therefore probably the best choice to go for.
The challenging part is choosing the best juicer for greens, therefore, before purchasing one, it is best you have loads of information on the different types that are available in the market. It is important to ensure that you go for the one that best suits your needs. You might want to consider such factors as how often you make juice, what it is that you juice and how much you are planning to spend.
The Omega 8006 Juicer is probably the best masticating juicer machine available in the market. This juicer has some incredible benefits; it is durable, produces less foamy and tastier juice, it has a slower motor which is very important when juicing and has a 15 year warranty, the longest in the industry! The juice is impressive, and in addition, the juicer is very easy to use and clean.
The Omega VRT350 juicer is another model that you can try. It can handle probably anything; carrots, vegetables, fruits, wheat-grass etc. It is incredibly easier to use. It comes with a self cleaning feature. In addition, it is fast and efficient and does not burn out.
Kuvings GMPD3530U is a multipurpose juicer that is actually cool. It is pretty much cheaper, effective, reliable and does a fantastic job. Best suited to budget cautious juice lovers. This brand delivers smooth juice, it does not oxidize the fruits or veggies.
You can also try the Green Elite Juicer machine. It is a two gear extractor that is relatively cheap and of quality.
There are loads of wide options to choose from. Just make sure that you choose the best juicer that best suits your needs.
Anyone who knows me is familiar with my love of coffee. Espresso, cappuccino, latte, macchiato, I want it all! So when I read a couple of other blogger’s super automatic espresso machine reviews, I just had to dive in and get one. Super automatic espresso machines can make all of my favorites, and even types I’ve never tried, all at the push of a button. It’s like having a local neighborhood coffee joint at home, right in your kitchen. It’s your own personal barista. Just without the line, take away the tip jar, and minus the attitude.
There are quite a few models, but I’ll just talk about the DeLonghi ESAM 3300 Magnifica. Whew! What a name. Most machines are ‘bean to cup’. Which means, you put in the fresh beans, press a button and out comes great smelling, freshly brewed morning Joe. The machine grinds the beans fresh for every brewing cycle, although you can use pre-ground coffee if you desire.
Any size milk container fits inside, and the coffee spigot height can be adjusted as well. Very convenient. One thing I like is that the DeLonghi has ‘fineness’ settings, which allow you to make the coffee as weak or as strong as you want it. There’s also no waiting between espresso and cappuccino like some machines, because it uses a double boiler system. Not only did the double boiler allow me to do espresso and cappuccino simultaneously, but the coffee temperature is always near perfect every time.
In addition to the more technical features it also has a few secondary features that I really like. It has a cup warmer and a built in grinder. Good for me, because I like to buy whole bean coffee. The cup warmer is great so that when the steamy espresso is pulled into the warm cup, it doesn’t lose temperature to the cup.
One gripe I had about the machine is that it is a bit loud. All espresso machines have some level of noise, the noise level of this one is slightly above the average. Thankfully (I think), my mornings are usually a whirlwind of chaos so I rarely notice it. Overall, this is a great machine that coffee lovers will enjoy for years to come. Whether you decide to get this one or one of the other models, be sure it fits your coffee style. Bottom’s up!
So I spent the last few weeks comparing different microwaves to find the one that will cook my favorite salmon (and many other stuff, yum) without fail. There are a ton of options out there so in order to narrow down my choices a bit I chose to set a budget of not more than $75. I looked for the best microwave ovens review and decided to try a few microwaves.
The first microwave I decided to try out was the Nostalgia Electrics Red Retro Series Microwave. I like the retro look of this one and the led display. It comes with a clock (pretty standard in a microwave) 12 pre-programmed features, 5 power settings and 700 watts of power. It’s not very large, sitting at only 18 x 14.2 x 10.2 inches which means it fits nicely on my counter top. The biggest draw back on this one for me though was the lack of a turn table inside, I don’t feel like my food cooks evenly unless it’s spinning.
The next microwave I used was the Kenmore countertop microwave. Kenmore is a brand I’ve heard a lot about and trust so giving this microwave a whirl was a no-brainer for me. At 19 x 14 x 11 inches the size is pretty comparable to the Nostalgia microwave and the weight is nearly identical as well. This one comes with a 10.6 inch turntable that is dishwasher safe, which is a big deal when my hot pocket explodes sending melted cheese all over my microwave. This particular microwave has a save feature so that I can program the times and power level (all 900 watts of it) that I want to cook certain things at. Also with just the press of a button I can increase the cook time by 30 seconds, also handy. At only $63 this one is about six dollars cheaper than the Nostalgia, in my book the Kenmore is the clear winner.
The final microwave I tried was be the Westinghouse 600W Counter Top Microwave Oven, 0.6 Cubic Feet. Again the size on this microwave is pretty comparable to the others at 10.3 x 17.8 x 13.6 inches and it weighs about 23 pounds. It has a turntable, 6 different power levels, and 600 watts of cooking power. This microwave has mechanical dials that you turn to set your cook time as opposed to the buttons of most modern microwaves. The time can only go up to 30 minutes which can be a pain if you need to defrost something and it is going to take a while. The inside is also significantly small than the other microwaves at just 0.6 Cubic Feet. This microwave really doesn’t have a whole lot going for it in terms of what I am looking for and it actually costs more than the Kenmore.
After spending some significant time with each of the 3 competitors the clear winner and the microwave I used to this day is the Kenmore. They have a trusted name and everything I was looking for in a microwave. It has a sleek design, programmable features, a turn table, and a price that fits in to my budget.

You might be passionate about making your own bread at home, but are you sure about the best bread maker to use? Do not be confused any more. Let us indulge in a Cuisinart bread maker review, shall we? There are some aspects about a bread maker that improves your bread making experience fundamentally. One Such aspect includes the versatility of the kinds of bread you can make. One should also be concerned about the ease of using the bread maker, and of course the quality of the final bread.
The Cuisinart bread maker does not compromise on versatility. Cuisinart allows you to make loaf of breads of three distinct sizes with the maximum size being 2.00 lb. Any cooking device worth its salt must come with recipes, and Cuisinart does not disappoint. The Cuisinart manual gives you a range of 101 cycles and 16 programs/recipes of making bread. With each recipe, you can easily choose a cycle from the Cuisinart which will determine crust thickness among other diverse bread qualities.
Bread making could prove complicated especially for a novice. However, the Cuisinart is an automatic bread maker. All you have to do is follow the recipes provided, and then watch the Cuisinart direct your bread making. The Cuisinart is an automatic bread maker operated by the push of buttons, and is fully equipped with an LCD screen that gives you the remaining time to the next step of your bread making. For example, you await a beep that instructs you to add ingredients such as nuts, or to shift the dough to the oven. For the Cuisinart, you simply use a button to choose your preferred bread size, or to make a delay time choice. The delay time simply schedules the beginning of the bread making to a later time. The Cuisinart serves you with a delay time of up to 12 hours. The Cuisinart also has a power back up. Therefore, as a Cuisinart user, you do not have to worry about power disrupting the bread making process.
While the Cuisinart gives 101 bread types to choose from, the operation of the bread maker can be complicated. Imagine if you wanted to make a specific type of bread. Then you would have to consider not only the ingredients, but also the bread size, and other specifics such as crust colours. Do not worry for the solution to the complication is following the manual keenly. The Cuisinart is not an aesthetically striking bread maker, and cleaning the bread maker can be tasking. Perhaps the mentioned complication is the price you have to pay for the versatility and the easy and automatic operations of the Cuisinart.
