Launch Of The "Artificial Intelligence - Reverse Engineering The Brain" Project

Toronto, Ontario, Aug. 20, 2007 - Intelligence Realm Inc. launched a distributed computing project called "Artificial Intelligence - Reverse Engineering The Brain".

This project is part of a larger project that is reverse engineering the brain in order to achieve artificial intelligence (AI). This project is similar to other distributed computing projects, like Seti@Home or Folding@Home.

"One of the critical issues blocking our advances in this field is computing power. The human brain has an estimated 100 billion neurons. Simulating biophysical neural networks of this magnitude require computing resources that few organizations have. By employing a large network of computers we can overcome this problem. We ask the public at large to volunteer for this task and donate computer time, which will allow us to build a large scale Artificial Intelligence System." said Ovidiu Anghelidi, Project Leader.

Our research findings allow us to move to the development phase and start building a system that will scale beyond the human brain capacity. Our final goal is to have a system that integrates knowledge from many disciplines, like mathematics, physics and chemistry. Building such a system will have exceptional benefits for our society, mainly because it will accelerate scientific discovery across all fields. The computer revolution brought about unprecedented changes in our society and AI would be no different in this regard.

Each technology has also pitfalls, but we are confident that strict control can minimize risks and overcome any possible pitfalls while allowing everyone to fully enjoy the benefits and promises of this technology.

Intelligence Realm would also like to caution against expecting a quick time frame for the system implementation. The conservative estimate is a time range of between 5 to 10 years. Nevertheless it is important to start now so that we can reach this goal.

Finding How Knowledge Is Represented In Brain Leads To New Computing Platform

Toronto, Ontario, Feb. 19, 2007 - Intelligence Realm Inc. has found a novel way to represent information in the brain using a complex simulation program and thus provide a basis for a new computing platform.

The theoretical model is composed of many biophysical neuronal cells, connected in a network. These cells perform computations in parallel and are capable of integrating information from many sensory systems. The number of neurons estimated to be in the brain is in the number of 100 billions. To date we have managed to simulate a network of less than a 1000 neurons only, using custom cell models. Building better software tools that can scale to the brain size is one of the company's top priorities.

"While there is an abundance of models in the neural networks field most of them do not share biophysical properties with the actual neuronal cells and thus most of the systems that employ that technology, fail to achieve the full capabilities of a brain system. In computational neuroscience models make use of neurons with biophysical properties but they lack knowledge representation.

Our theoretic model bridges this gap and as a result provides a substantially better computing model compared to many systems and also with the existing computer architecture. Not only in features like speed but also in features like learning and cognition. Our preliminary findings indicate that these and other brain functions are within our reach.

In a larger context this is in line with recent efforts from the past two decades, to come up with a different computing platform that will replace the existing one, which is built on top of the classical computer. Actual computers are inadequate in helping us solve complex real life problems, like simulating all the brain functions. Intelligence Realm hopes that someday soon, it will be able to solve problems like this and thus remove the fiction from science fiction.

Each one of the other emerging computing platforms has advantages and disadvantages, yet fully understanding how the brain works would be a great achievement for all of us that could pave the way for technologies that we can only imagine now." said Ovidiu Anghelidi, one of the company founders.

The company will continue to focus on the computational aspect of the brain only.

Intelligence Realm would also like to caution against expecting a quick time frame for a large scale system implementation. The estimate is that another 10 years will pass until the company would have a system that exhibits features like learning and cognition integrated into a single platform.

Jul. 28, 2006 Web Site Relaunch
New Web Site Provides Localized Content To International Visitors

Toronto, Ontario, Jul. 28, 2006 - Intelligence Realm Inc. has relaunched the company's web site using a software solution developed entirely in-house. The solution provides a unified view of a web site while providing localized content to international visitors.

Intelligence Realm is positioning itself in view of the future growth. Providing content for a large number of visitors, with various demographics, require a different development approach.

"Application scalability is an important component that can become a real problem, if it is not addressed upfront. We managed to address this issue and thus avoided many future complications that would have arised as a result of high traffic volume.

The site features now content for over 200 countries with customized local information like state and province names, currencies, date formats and other features. These features are proeminently visible in modules like sales and invoicing." said Ovidiu Anghelidi, one of the company founders.

Intelligence Realm has no intention of pursuing additional opportunities that will unfold as result of building the solution and will continue with the current business strategy.
